Kaben?2011.10.26
Old High Street, Quarry Bank, West Midlands DY5 1SE Tel: 01384 484827 We were originally heading around the corner to a local carvery, but as it was completely packed to the rafters decided to give Kaben? a go instead. It was an inspired move as Kaben? delivered on taste and quality at a reasonable price. Kaben? is located off Quarry Bank high street near the busy Merry Hill Centre in the Black Country. Like many curry houses around here, this used to be a public house -the old Blue Ball which I used to frequent on many a pub crawl in my younger days. My wife chose stuffed mushrooms which looked terrific, and tasted as good as they looked. Breadcrumbed, stuffed with meat and crunchy…lovely. My Sheek Kebabs were fragrantly spiced with a nice heat on the tongue. I followed with the Chicken Tikka Tawa. A sizzling tomato based curry with plenty of onions. Very tasty. Kaben? is very worthy of a visit if in the area, and apparently is the Stourbridge News newspapers local curry house of the year. After my visit I can see why it has achieved this accolade. Rating: Unlicensed A review from ghostmoonI dined here with a group of 8 the other night. I should say that the service was very good – they’re clearly used to dealing with large groups, and they looked after us very well indeed. Orders were taken promptly without rushing us, and the food arrived without us needing to wait long – good considering the place was packed. On to the food, then: my starter (prawn on puree) was very good indeed. The sauce was delicious and the bread wonderfully crisp. I recall thinking that if my main was as good, I’d be very happy indeed. Unfortunately, the main wasn’t as good. I’d ordered chicken makhani. Now, while I don’t claim to be an expert on Indian cuisine, every other time I’ve had a makhani it’s been creamy, slightly sweet and buttery, perhaps with a slight tang or hint of tomato. This makhani was blood-red in colour and resembled the standard dubious-quality chicken tikka masalla in both appearance and flavour. It was still perfectly palatable, but not what I was anticipating when I ordered, and this was somewhat off-putting. Rice, nan and chips were all very good, though. All in all, despite the niggle with the main course, we still had an excellent time and a very nice meal – but it is rather a big deal when what you get is nothing like what you think you’re ordering (and not much like the description on the menu, either). Still, worth a visit!! Rating: Imrans Restaurant and Sweet House2011.04.03

This was my first visit to the Birmingham balti triangle in some 20 years. We chose Imrans because we were on our monthly Friday night drinking session and decided to put a lining on our stomachs before alcohol abuse commenced, and this I was told by a drinking buddy was one of the best in the area. Neither starter or main came with any accompanying salad and no further mint sauce was offered. Also, the portion sizes were a little on the small size I felt – we paid around £12 a head and I could have happily have eaten another portion of my main course again. The quality of the food was very good though,my chicken had a lovely char barbecue flavour and served sizzling with onions….it just needed the accompaniments I usually expect.. My mates all seemed pretty happy, and there is a traditional sweet shop next door where pudding was purchased! Overall, I think its OK to good -but I was expecting a bit more from my first visit in a while to the home of the Balti. Rating:

Visitor Review by Karin Holmes
This is the best resturant ever. Barry and his staff are brilliant, please try this resturant as the food is exceptional never been disapointed having been going for many years, last year went for Christmas day that was brillant , unsual but so tasty. Rating: Yellowfingers Review (Oct 2009): I was nearly talked into going to a new Italian restaurant on the evening we visited the Bangla Lounge but luckily my niece fancied a curry. “Where should we go”, we asked ourselves, and decided to try this restaurant opposite the Norman parish church in Halesowen town centre.
Its bright signage invited us in, and being a Monday night we had little problem acquiring a good table at the window, even though it was by no means empty.
Service was quick and waiters were polite and eager to please.
The whole restaurant is clean and modern with round tables and white tablecloths-oddly no salt and pepper on any tables this evening but you only have to ask.
The food is very very good here. My Onion Pakora starter was faultless, my Sisters sheek kebab similarly so.
My main of Chicken Tikka Dansak was simply superb, with a richness and depth of flavour that other local restaurants don’t come close to.
My Niece had a Tikka Massala, while, though not to my tastes, she thoroughly enjoyed.
The chips of all things, should be mentioned. Crispy, in a light batter I think while fluffy on the inside-something unique for this kind of eatery Absolutely gorgeous and were polished off even though the ample portions meant we were already quite full.
Better still are the prices . Sunday -Thursday is a buy two main courses get one free offer- worthwhile checking its still on as may be for a limited time only.
Not just recommended, but a ‘Must Visit’.
