There have been an unprecedented amount of reviews for Blue Ginger, thanks to all who have contributed. As you can see below there are both good and bad opinions posted in regards to this restaurant. The opinions expressed below – apart from the review from ourselves – are from external reviewers and do not necessarily mirror those of the webmaster…with that in mind I think its time to create a disclaimer page…which visitors can find down the bottom right of the front page (you do scroll down that far, don’t you?).

Again, thanks for all your reviews. Yellowfingers wouldn’t be Yellowfingers without your input.

Cheers,

Andy, Webmaster.

Review by Yellowfingers:

I pass this establishment on my way to work every day, and it used to be the ‘Four Winds’ restaurant until very recently, so if any place was going to be ‘yellowfingered’ it would be here.

A very modern refurb to give a (warranted) upmarket impression greets you when you enter, as do the waiting staff and manager, all who are pleasant, super attentive and eager to please.

Service was very quick, and the popadoms that we ordered are unlike any other a have ever had -have I had a sheltered life?? They are curly, not flat disks -kind of like big sub-continent Quavers come tacos -aw hell -just see the pic below for proof.

My Chicken Tikka Korai had very generous amounts of chicken, however if anything a little too far on the tomato-ey side. The naan breads fluffy and not at all stodgy. Angie chose a Salmon Tikka starter which came out the correct colour -no food colouring seems to be have been used.

Angie also chose the Jaipur lamb chops -I tried some (well, you’ve got to haven’t you ) and it was superb.

The puddings are well worthy of note..if you have a sweet tooth try the White Chocolate Box -lush.

What I like most is that, as Blue Ginger is quite remote and you can only drive there, I can’t see them doing take aways -and this means it is a proper restaurant – diners will always come first over getting take-aways out the door- unlike their suburban counterparts.

That said, this place is going for the ‘exclusive’ clientele and its not exactly cheap, some of the main courses are ?10 plus but the quality and quantity generally is up there so recommended for Birthdays, Weddings, Bar-Mitzvahs and whenever you want a treat.

Where do I start!!!
We have used this venue before with our families and have found restaurant staff very obliging. Whats happened!!! I went last saturday night with my friend and her daughter, ordered 2nd drink when we had eaten our starter,  cokes came but where was the water we ordered ? We asked and we asked for the water several times, were we invisible ? ….Never had any contact from the manager, never once got asked if everything ok…thought we would be out in half hour, but hey we were invisible, they cleared table from main meals which we thought did not match previous standard, then we sat and waited and waited again !!! 20 mins before any one came and asked if they could get us anything else, we asked for desert menu, oh he said no deserts tonight freezer broke.. freezer and the tap for water??? We had coffees brought to table and hey presto the taps working again, we got glass of water and a jug of water all together for one person,  the most we saw of any of the waiters was after they presented us with the bill and they were hovering for money, we obviously felt this service was not deserving of a gratitude tip but no worries they didnt bring correct change so they helped themselves to there own tip,  we left the restaurant with no formal thank you, as you normally get on leaving any other indian restaurant. will we be going back? well what do you think….definately no!!!

Contemporary surroundings, dreadful food. Tasteless food that all looked and tasted the same. Definately not authentic Indian food probably bought in bag & heated up (not very well either). We were also overcharged by over ?20, so check your bill. Better still, try a better Indian restaurant, there are a few good ones locally.

If you enjoy bland tasteless food that places style over substance and enjoy paying top dollar for it then this is the place to go.

The setting is very contemporary and everything is designed to impress. The only thing that doesn’t is the food.

I’ve eaten at a Michelin rated Indian restaurant in London and are more than happy eating in a balti restaurant for a bargain price. All have their merits.

Blue Ginger tries almost to be too clever. Yes, the menu looks interesting and takes many twists on standard curry house fayre; the food though is in many cases both uninspiring and expensive.

The general view in our party of 9 was that the currys lacked any real depth of flavour to the point that some were just bland and dull.

One person had to send a meal back as it was not what she ordered only to find a dish reappeared almost instantaneously. The feeling was that the replacement dish just could not have been cooked fresh.

The bill was incorrect and we were overcharged. We had to request a breakdown which they could not give us and only by going around the table did they accept that we had been considerably overcharged.

The waiters didn’t seem to care and the whole place just wants a fast turnaround of tables.

There are better places to eat than this in that area. Don’t be fooled by style over substance.

Never again.
Sat down at 7 and the starters were ordered, cooked(aledgely) served and eaten by 7.20.
Table for 16 and we were in and out in one and half hours.
16 starters only took 5 min to cook and serve. Obviously not fresh and the taste confirmed it.
Mains came quickly after and were cold and tasteless.
All in all a complete waste of money. They just wanted you to eat quickly and free the table for the next. Cattle market. Never
again.

What can I say ?

Absolutely fantastic. Great menu, outstanding food, the taste and flavours are beyond me how do they do it .

Good service, lovely restaurant.
Been on a buffet night- great variation of the menu, even for vegeterians. Ample to chose from and there Talapia fish is to die for.

No ones perfect am sure but (Blue Ginger)? your not far off excellent.

Been 15 times now and? Blue Ginger gets better every time.

First time we went- brilliant.

Second time we went brilliant.

Third time we went it was the worst experience I have ever had eating out.

The choice of vegetarian meals for the buffet had dwindled to one starter and one side dish. My friends fish was bland and the second time it came out it was totally overspiced. My friend had a very similar experience when he went in on my recommendation.

I felt totally embarassed I had recommended it. It looks like the dream team have moved on!

We visited on valentine’s nite.we could choose from either menu or the buffet style. We chose the buffet. Fantastic value for 7.95.

We then had dessert from the menu. The waiters were always available but not intrusive. The food was lovely. We were not rushed despite it being a busy nite and even got a rose from the staff to take home. Our table was decorated with little red love hearts and the floral decoration was real flowers in a bowl..quite unusual.

We will definitely return and have already told friends of our enjoyably dining experience!

Well done to blue ginger!!

Visitor review from Harry:

We visited Blue Ginger last night for the first time. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is extensive with some dishes on offer that I have never seen before. The food is delicious, well presented and the portions are generous. I can recommend the starter platter for 2! The service is attentive and efficient. My only criticism is that eating felt rushed with little time between courses. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would be booking a table again there soon.

We were in Pershore on a Dragon Boat racing week-end with the social adventure group Spice Uk and decided to use this as an excuse to get our fingers yellow.

So we chanced upon this great Tandoori “The Shunarga” and paid it an unannounced visit on a Saturday night.

Shunarga

The menu here is very unusual and has many exotic sounding dishes, not least an “Indian Pasta” dish. One of our party chose a delicious King Prawn starter that appeared to have been dressed in fine egg thread noodles. My main course was a meat feast, Tandoori Chicken Leg, Chicken and Lamb Tikka in a minced Lamb Bhuna Sauce.

The presentation of the food was very good and the quality cannot be faulted.

Heres a tip. Don’t eat here if you are camping with your missus. The weather in the tent is likely to turn windy in the middle of the night and you won’ be Mr. Popular. Just Mr. Stinky.

On the whole, very much worth a visit if you are in the village . Enjoy.

clent

Clent is a small rural villiage nestling away in the hills of the same name, to the south west of the Birmingham/Black Country conurbation. Years ago, factory workers from the industrialised towns used the Clent Hills as a weekend escape from their hammer-and -nails working life. The Clent Hills are still a great place for rest, recuperation and activity to this day.

So it is a little strange to find a Bangladeshi Tandoori restaurant at the foot of the Clent Hills, and is something of a secret that I have been dying to discover and sample for quite a while.

When you enter the main waiting area/lobby it could be mistaken for any other Indian Restaurant in the vacinity, but it is only until you are seated does it become evident that it deserves the name ‘Jaipur Cottage’ as it could pass for a tea-room, with its wood beams and horse-brasses, or indeed, a country villiage cottage, which, I suppose it is.

So onto the food. Its OK. As good as you would get anywhere, no better, no worse. I tried the non-vegetarian Thali which was a sampler mix of three dishes available- the Lamb Pasanda Nawabi -very mild and creamy, the Chicken Tikka Masalla (Strangely sour, but not unpleasant) and the Prawn Bhuna , medium, quite tomato based, nice enough, but the same as available in any other curry house in the West Midlands.

I guess the main comment from the rest of our party with their chosen dishes was…’meh, its just ok…’

I did find my starters at little bit lacking in content, two very small peices of Tikka, an average sized Shish and a larger than normal quantity of salad, so take from that what you will.

Prices are a bit high, at 7-8 for a main course, and it is licensed, offering both Cobra and Kingfisher as the Indian style lagers to compliment your meal and cool your Biriany down a bit…

Would I make a return trip Well, yes, if I was in Clent, but I think the fact that I was eating in a Jaipur Clent ‘Cottage’, horse brasses or no, is not enough of a gimmick or a reason to go out of my way in future when there is so much elsewhere.
